Following the course of the River Nervion and with sections that run on an old Camino Real, you will reach the spectacular Puente Colgante, which gives access to the end of the stage: Portugalete. In the city, you will find a beautiful old centre, listed as an Artistic Historical collection, where you can visit places such as the Basilica of Santa Maria or the Kiosko de la Musica, among others.

The day ends in the tourist village of Laredo, where you can again enjoy the Cantabrian Sea, on the beach of La Salve. In the historic centre of the town, known as Puebla Vieja, you will find numerous medieval monuments.

    Distance: 24 kilometres.

    Accommodation: Overnight in Laredo.

    Day 5
    From Laredo to Escalante
This is one of the most beautiful stages along the Camino del Norte, in landscape terms, as it runs through the surroundings of the Santona Nature Reserve. From Colindres, you will have the option to take a boat that allows you to cross Santona, and then continue advancing surrounded by its spectacular marshes.

The day ends in Escalante, a quiet town where you will find some churches to visit and where you can taste the savoury anchovies from Santona.

One involves taking the boat from La Pedrena (the cost of the trip is 2 euros and is not included in the price of the trip), to reach the pier of Somo. Being able to enjoy a unique perspective of the cliffs during the crossing. The other option is to take the inland route, heading to Loredo and passing through Santa Maria de Latas.
