Camino de Santiago from Vilalba

The Camino de Santiago from Vilalba to Compostela combines the last stages of the Camino del Norte with the last kilometres of the Camino Frances. It is an ideal route for all those people who want to combine from the quiet atmosphere that gives the Camino del Norte, to Arzúa, with the lively atmosphere of the last stages on the Camino Frances.

The route crosses the interior of Galicia, a stretch of incredibly beautiful landscapes. Through intense green wooded areas, you will visit several charming villages and the impressive Monastery of Sobrado dos Monxes.

This stretch of the Camino ends at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Once you have regained your breath, after those beautiful moments that are lived during the last stage of the tour, you can request the Compostela, a certificate issued by the Pilgrim’s Office that accredits your pilgrimage.

The Camino del Norte from Vilalba meets all the requirements so that you can ask for the Compostela: do at least 100 kilometres on foot and finish the pilgrimage at the Cathedral of Santiago.

The day concludes in Arzua, where you can exchange experiences with the pilgrims who have chosen the Camino Frances for their pilgrimage. Cheese and honey in Arzua are highly valued in Galicia, so take advantage of your visit to try them.

    Day 6
    From Arzua to Amenal
Today the route is made along long forest tracks, in the company of the murmur of the streams. In your path, small villages with a lot of charm will come before you. One of these locations is A Brea, where we suggest visiting the Church of Santa Irene and the fountain with healing properties that is located next to it.

Before reaching the end of the stage, and surrounded by the fragrance of the eucalyptus trees, you will find a detour that will allow you to visit O Pedrouzo. Amenal is a quiet town where you can rest comfortably before facing, tomorrow, the last stage of the Camino de Santiago.

In the first part of the tour you will pass next to villages such as Cimadevilla and Lavacolla. In the latter, you will find a monument to Santiago and a river where pilgrims usually clean before entering Santiago.

In the last kilometres on this stage, you will live moments that will be forever engraved in your memory. The first will be when you see the towers of the Cathedral of Santiago rise from the top of Monte do Gozo. The other will be when you enter the Plaza del Obradoiro, with the sound of Galician bagpipes in the background.

    Distance: 21 kilometres.

Accommodation: Overnight in Santiago de Compostela.

    Day 8
    Santiago de Compostela
The city of Santiago de Compostela is declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Here, in addition to admiring the majesty of the Cathedral of Santiago and enjoying the lively atmosphere of the squares that surround it, you will find other places of interest such as the Mercado de Abastos and the Alameda.

Another fantastic plan is to wander around in the narrow streets of the city centre, which are especially peculiar because of the dark colour of its cobblestones. Discovering the traditional taverns of the city and delighting in exquisite Galician seafood are also two essential activities in Santiago.
If you want to fully enjoy all that the heart of Galicia has to offer, you can extend your trip by adding additional nights in Santiago de Compostela. From there you can make excursions to Finisterre and the Cies Islands, for example. Contact us for more information.
